British Values

Promoting Fundamental British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Queens Platinum Jubilee 2022

Our celebration will reflect upon what it means to be British and the British Values. Throughout the day each class will use the playground for their ‘street party’ where music will be played from each decade of the Queen's reign. There will also be games/activities that were created or invented during each decade which were voted by children through the Student Innovation Team (SIT). These games and activities are perfect for considering Rule of Law.

Below you will find the the details of how the British Values for each age group will explore.

British Value activity overview for parents

To show how  British Values are promoted at Willowbank, we use many different strategies, some examples of which are listed through the diagram below.

British Values at Willowbank Primary School

All of our staff have a responsibility to promote British Values and children are encouraged to share how they have demonstrated these values throughout their learning according to their age and stage of development. Children's ideas are recognised and celebrated through our subject specific displays.

Assemblies are used to promote and understanding of British values. These are presented by staff as well as children throughout our school.

We also appreciate the role of Physical Education in promoting British Values
