Severe Weather Procedure

In case of closure of school due to severe weather

During severe weather conditions, we make every effort to keep the school open. However, in some circumstances, following completion of a risk assessment, we may decide that it is necessary to temporarily close the school. Reasons may include:

  • Too few staff members can reach the school, or advice is issued against travelling
  • Risk of injury to pupils, staff or visitors due to the weather conditions
  • A failure of the school’s heating systems

In such circumstances we will always attempt to give parents and carers advance notice, but due to the unpredictable nature of some weather events this may not always be possible.

If we make a decision to close the school before the school day starts, an email will be sent and an update will be posted on the school website as soon as we can and ideally before 8.00am.

If we make a decision to close school during the school day we will send an email and ask that all parents come as soon as safely possible to collect their children. We ask that they come in through the main entrance and collect children from their classrooms. Any uncollected children will be cared for until the end of the day.

Please let us know if your contact details have changed.

Decisions to close the school are never taken lightly, but unfortunately may sometimes be necessary for the safety and wellbeing of the school community.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs S Hillson (Head of Teaching and Learning)
