Admissions

'extracted from school prospectus'

The school prospectus outlines the arrangements for educating pupils at Willowbank Primary School and provides parents with useful information regarding curriculum provision, uniform, school rules, extra curricular provision and Parent/Teacher Association activities.

Parents and pupils are invited to view the school and to discuss entry with the Headteacher.

Parents may only secure a place through the Admissions Team of Devon County Council who will usually contact parents in the year prior to a child starting school.  If you have any queries about admission, please ring the County Helpline on 0845 155 1019.   Applications for admission may also be made on line atwww.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

In accordance with the policy agreed with Devon County Council, there is one date for admission to the Reception class.  Pupils born between 01 September and 31 August  start school in September.

Although the school is unable to allocate a place, it is  helpful if contact is also made with the school and a note of interest form completed.

Families moving into the area with children already attending school may contact the school directly to discuss vacancies.

An Admission Form (S11/1 and S11/2) needs to be completed for all children allocated a place at the school.

In accordance with the LEA Admission Scheme, parents will need to submit applications by 20 January.  Parents will be sent decision letters from the LEA and these will be posted by the end of March.  All parents will receive letters at the same time, irrespective of whether their child is due to start school in September or January.

Following the confirmation of place at Willowbank, parents of pupils due to start in the Reception class will receive notification of the Induction programme.  (Induction of older pupils and their parents can be arranged on an individual basis by arrangement with the Headteacher).

Appeals Procedure

If a child has been refused a place at a preferred school, parents may appeal against the decision.  They are advised to contact the school if they wish to appeal.  The school will provide information about the appeals procedure.
