Foundation Stage

Welcome to Willowbank Primary School. We have an exciting autumn term ahead of us where we will be providing your child with a variety of learning experiences and opportunities. We are really looking forward to getting to know the class of 2018-2019 and working alongside you as they start their learning journey at Willowbank.

The Foundation Stage unit consists of myself (Mrs Kyte), Mrs Davies and Ms Chapman. We are supported by our fantastic teaching assistants: Miss Mogford, Miss Young,  Miss Burke, Mrs Stevens and Mrs Stamp.

Our themes for this term are ‘All About Us’ (up to half term) and ‘Amazing Animals’ (from half term to Christmas). The theme of ‘All About Us’ gives your child a great opportunity to use their own experiences as a starting point for their learning and help them become familiar with their new surroundings.  The theme of 'Amazing Animals' will explore farmyard animals and nocturnal animals.  Every theme is developed through a child led approach which takes into account the children's interests.

Our setting encompasses the characteristics of effective learning. These are:

Creating and thinking critically – thinking:Having their own ideas. Choosing ways to do things. Making links

Playing and exploring – engagement: Being willing to ‘have a go’. Finding out and exploring. Playing with what they know.

Active Learning - motivation: Being involved and concentrating. Keeping on trying.
