A new bike and scooter rack is helping pupils ride into school in Cullompton.
Devon County Councillor John Berry has donated the equipment, as well as one basketball hoop via his locality budget.
The locality budget gives councillors £10k to give to non-profit organisations within their ward.
Cllr Berry said: “What better than to give an award of money like this to children to ride their bikes or scooters to school.
“The basketball hoops will also get kids out in the fresh air, it’s good exercise for them, and it’s a very good cause, hence the donation.”
Another basketball hoop was paid for by the school’s PTFA.
Mrs Sophie Hillson, the headteacher at Willowbank School, which is part of the First Federation Academy, said: “We are hugely appreciative of the donation.
“We applied for a grant through John Berry for bike racks and scooter racks because we want to encourage children to walk to school so that we ease the congestion around the town and the parking for our neighbours.
“We also wanted to encourage sport and exercise, so we have brought in new basketball hoops.
“Pupils are enjoying being able to park their scooters and bikes, and it has smartened up the area as before they didn’t have anywhere to park them.” https://www.devonlive.com/news/local-news/students-scooter-school
