  • Mayor James Buczkowski visit (and tour) of Willowbank School

Fri 24 Jun 2022 The SIT team

Mayor James was given a tour of all the classes, the meadow room, the library and forest school. He said it was very good that we are taught about diversity and uniqueness. He was really impressed because we sign in assemblies and he’d never seen it before.

“The meadow is an excellent place because it is quiet and a nice place to go if the classroom was too much,” he said and that the library was a peaceful, cosy place (except the seagull nest on the roof!)

We spoke about our Super Six reading programme and how they inspire us to be ourselves and everybody is unique. He said it was great that the librarians decided to set up the library club. Fortunately, Mayor James said that it was an amazing idea to have year six jobs:

    • Digital leader
    • Librarian
    • Sports leader
    • Prefect
    • House captains

We explained to Mayor James about what we do in forest school:

    • Tree climbing
    • Wood work
    • Mud kitchen
    • Den building
    • The pond

He had said that forest school was a good place to learn about the outdoors. We showed him that we made a hedgehog feeding centre.

We showed Mayor James the trophy cabinet and how some students took part in the beach football tournament; he said it was impressive. We said that they showed determination (which we stated as one of our core values) in the game because they had to play on sand.

PSHE, forest school, personal development and the well-being walls in Year 5/6 were an important discussion, as well as, Move and Choose, where we hear different genres of books read by different teachers. Finally, we directed Mayor James out of the building and said thank you for coming to our school.

  • Thank you to the 'Friends of Willowbank' for purchasing Dyslexia Friendly Books for our SEND children.

Tue 21 Jun 2022 Haidee Frost

The school are incredibly grateful for the wonderful fundraising that has taken place in order to purchase this selection of books specifically for our SEND children with dyslexia.  These books help our pupils through having extra spacing between lines, coloured pages and preferred fonts.  They are books that are all in our Accelerated Reader programme and by authors the children love to read.

Thank you to all the Friends of Willowbank for supporting our SEND children once more!

  • Beach Soccer 2022 - WINNERS

    Mon 20 Jun 2022

We end the week WINNERS of the Beach Soccer 2022 tournament!

We took 18 Year 5 and 6 children to Croyde Bay in North Devon for the 2022 Beach Soccer tournament hosted by Exeter City Community Trust and Premier League Primary Stars.

After playing a series of qualifying games in the heat on what was the hottest day of the year so far on sand (which is a lot harder then you think) our team won the plate final and walked away with an impressive trophy.

We had the pleasure of meeting and getting a picture with Hannah and Connie Short, England Women Beach Soccer players.

Well done to all children who took part - it was such a lovely day.

  • Coastal Walk trips

    Mon 20 Jun 2022

Last week our 4 KS1 classes each took in turns to visit South Devon to take part in a Coastal Walk led by David Glenny.

Tadpoles and Caterpillars had lots of fun during their beach trip. Walking along the coast, waving at steam trains and rolling down the hill (lots of times) before reaching the cove. Whilst at the cove, they threw pebbles in the water, discovered a variety of crabs when rock pooling and climbed the rocks before lunch. After lunch, they walked to Broadsands beach where they paddled, found even more crabs,  a fish, drew in the sand, created sculptures and covered their feet in the wet sand.
