The Area of C&I encompasses ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

 

ASD- Autistic Spectrum Disorder means a child can find it difficult to understand and use non-verbal and verbal communication, understand social behaviour which affects their ability to interact with children and adults and can think and behave flexibly, which may be shown in restricted, obsessional or repetitive activities.

 

Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) Children and young people may have a range of difficulties with speech and language.  This could be in the production of speech, not finding the right words or not being able to join them together meaningfully in expressive language.  Furthermore, they may have problems in communicating through speech and find it hard to acquire language and express thoughts and ideas.  These children may have problems in communicating through speech and may find it hard to acquire language and express thoughts and ideas.
