School Innovation Team

At Willowbank we are proud to have pupil representatives (from Foundation Stage to Year Six) that are active members of our Student Innovation Team.  This team encourages and ensures pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about the school that affect them.  All pupils have the opportunity to raise issues, share ideas and take part in discussions that involve all of their classmates in reaching a democratic solution.  Wider issues that arise in class are discussed further at regular meetings, this ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard.

Student Innovation Team (SIT)

Willowbank School chose International Day of Democracy to vote for their class representatives.

Candidates shared their interest  with their class teacher who created a ballot paper. Before voting, candidates were asked to share with their classes how they would represent the views of their class members .

Salad Bar

Our Student Innovation Team were integral in the implementation of our new salad bar. Helped by our school cook, Tina, they put their ideas into practice.  Supporting research shows that incorporating salad bars into school lunches increases children's consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. At Willowbank, we feel that through providing these early, positive experiences, children are better prepared for a lifetime of healthy eating.

Children have enjoyed their increased participation in school lunchtimes and staff have noticed that children are trying new fruits and vegetables.

Making Willowbank Reduce, Reuse and Recycle more

Pupils attended our Student Innovation Team meeting to share letters and information that they had written and researched. They shared their concerns about the impact that the waste that is generated affects the environment.

Student Council were pleased that Tina, our school cook, could attend as we identified that lunchtime was a time of the day where most waste could be reduced and recycled.

Our  representatives took the points made back to their classes. We look forward to hearing about more ideas.
